BANO Boutique is one of the last specialty stores in the Triangle to offer on-site alterations and one-on-one personal wardrobe consultation.
Sima’s unexpected career in fashion began in high school when she started sewing for herself. Her love for design and beautiful fabrics became a passion. So, when Sima moved to Durham over 25 years ago, she worked as a tailor in upscale boutiques before moving to Florence, Italy, where she became a tailor of couture women and men clothing.
Returning to Durham several years later, the boutiques offering onsite alterations had disappeared. And given her contacts in Italy and her love of fashion, Sima opened BANO Boutique offering onsite couture tailoring not only for the clothing she sold at BANO but she also offered tailoring and alterations for men and women and custom dressmaking including bridal gowns etc. to the general public.
Sima’s love for alterations, custom tailoring and dressmaking has earned her recognition in the Triangle area, including the Herald Sun’s Reader’s Choice Award for Best Alterations the last 10 years.
